As the first independently established German language trainer in Amsterdam, Elisabeth Schlager has already helped hundreds of students to improve their German. With her decades of experience in the field of language training, intercultural communication and coaching she has all she needs to offer her students an extremely effective course of studies.
‘It makes me feel so good when clients finishing their training say with a smile: “it’s really nice to be able to speak German!”’
‘I love supporting people to do their job with enjoyment. My line of approach: to learn to discover how to speak German with confidence and to develop the necessary self-reflection for this.
To me, the whole point is that someone feels close to who he really is, so he comes across as authentic when speaking and negotiating. Of course, you need vocabulary for this and a certain minimum of grammar, but the best thing is daring to be yourself, isn’t it?
During my training, I allow my clients to experience for themselves the personal contact a German conversation partner responds to, and how this may differ from their Dutch colleagues. I allow people to experience what it means to act empathetically, to laugh together at funny expressions and to deploy self-reflection. That creates a lot of scope during the learning process, and at work.
I’m delighted my clients come from all over the Netherlands and from so many different lines of business. It’s my privilege to train them and it continually challenges me to research new professional areas including architecture, fiscal law, import-export, marketing and market enlargement, presentation techniques, theatre, sales, negotiating. That way, my work stimulates me to continuous development in various fields: from didactics to non-verbal communication and business coaching.’
